Microbial Metabolites Discovery and Characterization: Potential for Biofilm Control

The increased and widespread phenomenon of bacterial resistance to antibiotics has long been critically demanding new, effective, alternative infections treatments.

Bacteria are already known to be able to produce compounds that hold the capacity of controlling or impairing the growth of others. After sampling of several devices of a dairy farm, isolates were tested for the secretion of such antimicrobial compounds. Once detected, their production has been optimized and is under characterization.
