Rita Pessotti: Actinobacterial Interactions

Rita Pessotti: Actinobacterial Interactions
Many gene clusters predicted to code for secreted secondary metabolites are not expressed in pure culture. Some of these can be activated by co-culture. Therefore, co-cultivation of different actinobacterial species is a promising tool to induce the expression of gene clusters which are silent in pure culture. My project focuses on the study of actinobacterial and actinobacteria-plant interactions, attempting to 1) understand the secondary metabolism that orchestrates them; 2) isolate new bioactive natural products that are biosynthesized as a consequence of to these interactions.
